Westchester Frets is Luthier Ian Davlin's Guitar, Mandolin and Banjo repair and restoration service.

"Who is Ian Davlin?"
Ian Davlin is one of the premier luthiers serving Westchester County in New York.

"What is a Luthier?"
A Luthier in its original definition was a person who built Lutes. Today it is more widely used and includes people that repair and build guitars, mandolins , ukulele and for some reason even banjos. The word luthier is also applied to the violin though the violin predates the lute. In essence anyone that builds or repairs instruments with strings that are either plucked or bowed is considered a Luthier.

"What makes Ian Davlin a Master Luthier?"
Ian has been involved in building guitars and guitar repair since 1993. Which by many standards is a fairly long time and is longer than the ten years required to call oneself a master luthier.

"That is a long time, but dont some people fail even after doing something for a long time?"
Yes, that is true. However, Ian has worked for the likes of George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, Kim Breedlove of Breedlove Guitars , Jim Rubin of Santa Fe Violin and Guitar and Ken Cartwright of Cartwrights Music Repair.. All of whom are known experts and have very nice things to say about his work and him as a person.

"Sounds fairly impressive, is he expensive?"
Ian employs a tiered approach to pricing repairs. A student instrument repair is not priced the same as a rare and vintage instrument repair. All levels of instruments are welcome and repairs are bid accordingly.

"How do I get a guitar to Ian for Repair?"                                                                                              Ian's shop is located at 900 Commerce, Thornwood NY 10594. Frequently observed hours are Monday-Friday 12pm-6:30pm Saturdays 12pm-4pm. Exceptions have been know to be made and appointments for off hours can be scheduled.
